FAQs

Are the cabins warm in winter?

Yes! The cabins are super cosy and built to be comfortable year-round. They each have two Rointe heaters, a heated towel rail and excellent insulation. Think tiny houses rather than summer glamping cabins.

I don’t have a car, how do I get to the cabins?

Battle train station is around a 90-minute journey by train from central London, and we’re just a 5-minute cabin ride from the station. We don’t have Uber here, so you’ll need to book a taxi in advance (we can recommend some local companies). There’s also the 95 bus which stops outside the White Hart pub in the centre of the village.

What facilities are within walking distance?

In Catsfield we’re very lucky to have a village pub, The White Hart, a post office/village shop and Great Park Farm shop and cafe (this is where we get the excellent cake for our writing retreats).

You can also take the 1066 walking route, via Powdermill Woods, into Battle, which takes about 45 minutes. There you’ll find plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes both our Lucy and Matilda cabins take well-behaved dogs. Please be aware however there are cattle in the fields during spring, summer and autumn.

What are your check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 3pm on the day of arrival, and check-out by 11am on the day of departure.

I want to come for an independent writing break, can you provide meals?

The cabins are self-catering, but we can provide delicious pre-prepared meals from Great Park Farm shop that can be heated up in your cabin. Email us for details.

If I book an independent writing break, will there be other writers there?

Our cabins are completely self-contained and perfect for those seeking uninterrupted time to get to work on a book, screenplay or PhD thesis. We’re also open to anyone wanting a restful and inspiring stay. If you’d like the company of other writers during your stay, we recommend booking one of our small group 4-night writing retreats.
